Because the campus is a small cruise ship, the community that Semester at Sea creates is very close. The community can decide to travel together in a country or on their own. Group travel through field programs allows the creation of a strong bond between the students because of the shared experience. Once people start to find others they enjoy traveling with, they are able to travel on their own and form their own plans.
