In each country, Semester at Sea offers field programs. Field programs are field trips. Before getting on the voyage, students and professors are given the opportunity to sign up for these trips. This relieves some of the stress of trying to plan what to do in the country. The field programs include travel and activities to do in the country with no planning needed. Some of the programs correlate with a class offered on the ship. These fieldwork days are required for the students if they are in the class. The students are able to see firsthand what they are learning in their classes through experiential learning.
